Re: Trim pump gasket

don't use form-a-gasket unless you want to run the risk of debris leading to a complete rebuild. When the seal between valve body and motor begins to leak it is almost always due to a warped reservoir. If so, then you will need a new motor. If you recently did some DIY to the pump then it is most likely crossed threads on a port. If so, about 1-in-4 people can carefully back out and have enough aluminum left to work. If there ports are stripped then port repair entails full rebuild of valve body. It's back on that debris thing except now it's metal shavings.

The o-ring could be bad.
If the pump housing is warped??The motors/pump housings are available all over the place.
Send RRitt the stuff and he can rebuild the hyd pump and install the new motor etc.
That way you know it's gonna be good.
If the hyd lines came out easily then the pump is gonna be ok to rebuild.

Re: Trim pump gasket

assuming that the drip is from valve body to housing

try a standard BN70 oring size 041.
if that drips try a four lobe "quad ring" size 041.
if it still drips then you should buy a new motor.
new motors are cheap. $75ish on 3w and $90ish on 2w.
its not worth losing a whole weekend over $75 and still ending up with a second rate fix.

I appreciate the advice I have been looking for a new motor but they are all over 300 dollars I must be looking in the wrong place . I would like to know where to buy at your price of around 100 bucks . Thanks

Re: Trim pump gasket

google shopping, ebay, amazon, etc.
search for "Force Trim Motor" -
refine by new - USA - sort by price

the chinese trim motors are not as good as USA trim motors. However, the quality gap is not very large and doesn't really justify much more than 10-20% premium. The main issue is waterproofing. You can make the chinese motor waterproof with generous coatings of flex-seal. The 3w seem to be a better product than 2w due to corrosion. The chinese 2w seem to have problems with glavanic corrosion. I get a lot of 1996-2005 sytems in for repairs wirth chinese 2w. If the installer leaves off ground strap then the chinese motors eat themselves up in just a few years. Mercury sells the anode strap for around $2.50. You just attach one end to motor and the other to anode. The mercury 2w trim also eat themselves up if you leave off strap, but it takes 5-7 years instead of 2-3. At any rate, if you use a 2w chinese motor then make sure the frame is solidly grounded.

Re: Trim pump gasket

All the inexpensive marine/ATV/snowmobile stuff on internet comes from same chinese factory. If it is a new part being sold for cheap then it came from the exact same factory and is being distributed in US through arrowhead or WAI. Any price or description variances from one reseller to another does not change the base product. There is only one factory making cheap aftermarket for mercury, force, evinrude, johnson, etc.

The valve bodies are crappy quality throughout and will not last on big engines. (60+).
The trim motors are well due to their experience with auto starters & stuff.
However, they are not waterproof and aren't going to last as long on a boat as an ARCO.
Spray a can of flex-seal all over the chinese trim motor if you buy one.

Search on ebay. anything made by ARCO, SIErra, or other will cost more money and clearly say who made it.
If the description does not name the manufacturer and it is under $200 then it is chinese.
pick the cheapest price.
if it is same model then it is same part from same factory and price difference is just mark-ups.

that is as clear as I can make it.

Re: Trim pump gasket

That's perfectly clear thank you very much for the information I really appreciate it I will check out eBay and see what I can find. And the flex seal sounds like a good idea thanks again
