Hi new guy here we'll sort of, I previously lurked as "bigwave"

Haven't had a boat for a few years and am now back

Previously had stern drives, Volvo and mer cruiser. I got rid of my last boat as I wasn't using it and the cost of servicing and mooring was getting out of hand

However I am now retired and have the time to use a boat so have purchased an older runabout with a 1999 90hp Johnson out board,

The previous owner replaced the trim motor, and it is now leaking at its base, I've noticed that he apparently did not fit the new "o" ring that came with it, as it was in a side pocket in the boat in its original packaging.

I understand how to get the pump motor off so as to replace the o ring but wondered will it loose much oil and are there any traps to watch out for

Thanks for any thoughts offered

I think there is a filter under the motor. Are you talking about the large o-ring between the motor and the pump housing? I cant remember if that is a sealed motor or not, if not, check for water intrusion into the electric motor as that can lead to corrosion.
