Ok so I have the prestolite pump on my 115 Evinrude, rebuild parts are kind of hard to find. The pump will move the motor up and down but it won't stay up. Given the difficulty finding parts I had an idea and thought I'd run it by the guys here.
Has anyone "converted" their outboard trim pump to a remotely located pump such as with an I/O setup?
There is room in the stern to mount it and I believe it would just require longer hoses.

Any thoughts?

Thank you

Me, personally, and I'm not an expert but I have been working on outboards and boats, for about 30 years now. ( never could afford a mechanic) I have rebuilt 3 or 4 trim units. And with one that old, I think you have a really good idea. Best way to have a new system and save a few dollars. If you do it let me know how it goes. And what you used.

There is no reason why you could not install a MERCRUISER / MERCURY trim pump.-----Should be lots around for reasonable $$-----Mount inside the boat away from water.---Adapt hoses as needed.

Too damn cold to do it out there now but when it starts to warm up I'll let you know how it goes.
