Does anybody know how to remove the trim pump bracket? I need to replace it and the solenoids as well and cant get the mount off of the boat. I have the actual pump out with the 2 bolts but cant figure out how its mounted. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks :watermelon:

get a scraper and wire brush and clean up the base so you can see what is going on. find the screw/lag bolt heads. unscrew them or pry the base up with a light bar. if there too bad too turn out, they ought to just pop up from the floor.

When I was refurbshing my 89 SR 180 BW last year, besides all the wood being rotten, several of the components needed replacing too. My trim pump bracket was all rusted too. I shopped around on the internet and found a stainless steel one for $64.00 plus shipping. I can't remember who the supplier was, but I found them onn Ebay and they were in NC I think.

Don't waste expensive freeze off. Just work with cold chisel and a hammer gently in the area to remove all junk. Screws will show up, they must be SS.

I dont understand why everybody is saying that freeze Off is so expensive! I buy a can for $3.75 a peace. Not too bad. WD-40 cost more then that. And thanks for the advice.

Because you didn't want to dump $6 worth of antifreeze. LOL:laugh:

Now that i think about it its not the money as it was the pain in the rear that it took to fill the block with anti freeze!

Seriously, most of us do not account for little things like this. But if you do, you will see how fast they turn into pretty big numbers.

Re: Trim Pump Removal Help?

Did you get it removed?

I had a similar situation the other year when I was dissasembling my current rebuild project. Finally I just ripped the thing off the floor. The floor was totally rotten so it didn't matter. In any case the the pump bracket was also totally rusted out, so no way to reuse it. As someone else commented earlier, get a new stainless steel one. They look great and are not at all expensive, and will never rust out like your old one did.

Cheers,

Johan

No i did not get a chance to go to the boat. I will for sure buy a new one. I will see how badly the screws are rusted and try and get the pump out the right way. If not then ill just rip it out and then patch up the old holes!

Sounds like a plan. Hopefully nothing else is rusted out or rotten. Where is it attached now?

OK. Have you investigated why it rusted? Has there been a lot of water there?

OK, that will certainly affect it. But three years shouldn't rust all parts to that level. Did you or the previous owner get saltwater in the boat? I've never had a boat in anything else than salt water and they don't rust out in three years if taken care of. I'm only asking because I'm afraid of what else might be lurking once you've pulled that bracket off the floor.

Ye i have another boat that is in the saltwater and my parents own there own marina with about 30 boats in the water. But i really never payed attention to that unit. So i never took care of it. Maybe water got in there time to time from rain and the wash down. But thats all what i am aware of causing it to rust. Other then that i only spray the more important parts with rust shield. You thinking my stringers are rotted?
