Trim question

I have a 1990 Johnson 150, and have had the trim get stuck while the motor was raised up at the lake to accomodate fishing in shallow water. In order to get the motor to go back down, I had to put my weight on the rear of the motor and push the trim down switch at the same time to get it moving down. It would freely continue to move up when the switch was pressed. Does the trim use any kind of fluid that it may be low on? If so where do I check? This has never occurred on the trailer when raising or lowering the motor, only on the lake. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Re: Trim question

raise the motor and lock it, then fill it on the trim resovior under the motor, then cycle down and back up, lock repeat. i use power steering fluid. open the trim connection box, and make sure the connections are not corroded.
