I have another question.Where do I run the trim at?
Had the boat in the water and the tilt/trim was about 1/4 of the way down but I am not sure where it is suppose to be at. New to the whole trim thing. On the throttle handle it says trim up/down and another botton says trailer.Any help wouls be appreciated

Re: Trim Question

Like I said in my "Meaningless" reply to your clutch thread. You need to find a dealer, the CG Aux, or a power squadron to SHOW you how your systems work. There is no set place for trim, it's done by feel, listening, and watching your tach and speedometer, and changes by wind, wave, and boat loading conditions. No one answer fits all conditions.

I will answer this one. "trim" has a limited range of movement and is used when you have the boat on plane. "trailer" is the one that raises the outdrive up all the way, so you can safely pull it out of the water on your trailer. Make sense?

Re: Trim Question

There is a "trim Drill" described in "getting started in Power Boating" a very popular book that has been out for a very long time written by Captain Bob Armstrong. It goes like this:

Trim the drives all the way in (down) before you start.

Hit the throttle and advance smoothly to wide open.

When you get on plane, trim out (up) until you reach max speed or until the boat begins to porpoise; then trim in (down) slightly.

Once you have the boat running at it's best, throttle back to your intended cruising speed and fine tune the trim to that speed.

Strangely enough it takes longer to describe what to do than it does to actually do it.

Consider buying the book...
