Re: Trim refuses to come down

I have a 1998 Yamaha 200 Saltwater series and mine os just the opposite it will only trim up a minimal amount not enough to plaen out well but anytime running over 2500 RPM it will not go up any further goes down fine -- if you slow down to under 2500 RPM the motor trims up and down fine .. tried it on my trailer and it works fine both ways in gear and in neutral over 2500 RPM and everything -- I'm really confused ?????

wow
sounds like yo may have a main valve problem or the tilt ram its scared. you will need to ascertain whether its electrical or hydraulic. my bet is leaning towards electrical but who knows.
next time have someone try it at the pan switch without disturbing the throttle position.
good luck and keep posting

Re: Trim refuses to come down

I had someone try the switch on the motor while running and no luck -- I tried the trim at home with a water hook up in get and in neutral and they both work fine - I don't know why when it is in the water running it gives me problems -- I watch the volts on my battery and when I try to trim up the volts go down so the motor is getting power it seems -- I am confused with this problem because it works fine out of the water -- any suggestions..

Re: Trim refuses to come down

I have a f40Y at the repair facility today, the mechanic has never seen this issue, but it is the exact same. I get to about 1500 rpm and the trim stops responding to going down. He has contacted Yamaha and they have never heard of it. They suggested replacing the main seals and the valves but just a guess. The parts were about $350, and couldn't guarantee a fix. So I could get to about $1000 before they find it. Not willing to be guinee pig so if someone has the answer appreciate it.

Re: Trim refuses to come down

Several different things at once. Check all of the connections on the relays, specially the grounds. I have found weak motors to give the problem on the up side. We have to clean the armature and replace the brushes on the race motors often because of this. Our problem is aggravated by running 24 and 36 volts on the up side. The only times I have run into it on the down side it was in the relays. If it is the unit in a square black box, open it and check there.
