Hey guys this is a continuation of an earlier thread about my problems with my motor trimming itself. I bought a new relay switch but can't seem to find out where it goes. I have a Clymers manual but can't find anywhere in there where the relay switches are located. I think that are located on the port side under a black cover but i'm not sure. To saver me some time does anyone have any pictures or comments on where this is located?

You might tell us the year of the motor. Older models had solenoids, newer models have relays. You might look on the crowleymarine website. It will likely ID the spot they are located.

It's an 86'. I am pretty sure it has relays because I talked to the guy at the place where i bought the switch for a while. He seems to know what he was talking about and told me to go ahead and buy a trim relay beacuse they are only $20 and it will likely solve the problem. I guess these motors are known for doing this occasionally because i have talked to two other people with either this motor or the 150 version that have also seen this. They just took the motor to a mechanic and had them replace the relay so they have no idea where it's at.

the parts diaghram shows a PTT box with a cover. It is not clear, but the relays could be under the box cover. Trace the wires from the trim motor, and it will lead you to the relay location.

I'm gonna' go out on a limb and guess that your relay box is on the port side of the engine. I looked at the diagrams on shop2.evinrude.com and the one for '86 is identical to the one for my engine.
