I have just bought a nice trim guage that I would like to use on my Mercury 1150 from 1970. I have the powertrim system with the pump inside the boat and hoses going out to two cylinders. What kind of sender should I get and where to mount it?

Hi there, I don't believe there is going to be a trim sending unit available to just bolt on your engine model.

If you really want to make this gauge work, you may have to become creative by fabricating a way to make a sending unit work on your engine model.

Here is a photo image list of a bunch of trim sending units to look through to see if you can make something work.

If you make anything work, be sure to share your ideas.....Good luck.:)

Thans for your advice. Guess I will try to make my own solution, think a OMC sender that have a little arm might work. Just have to hope the resistans will match guage.

Rick, The piston retraction amount could drive the sender, if it won't work any other way.

An OMC sender wont work on a mercury gauge. Different resistance. Off the top of my head I don't know the ohms requirements but OMC is different than mercury. In any case you MIGHT be able to rig up a linear potentiometer to run off the hydraulic actuators but waterproofing will be a hassle unless theres something close off the shelf.

If it were mine and I REALLY wanted a trim indicator I'd run a manual cable setup with a mechanical indicator ... such as half way down the page...

Of course the other choice is to mount a variable resistor next to the gauge. Adjusting the variable resistor will change the gauge setting. The gauge will look cool, and you can consider yourself as the trim sender. Just a joke.

The gage is for 1973 and later Mercruiser stern drives, a Mercury dealer might be able to match a sender. Either part Nr. B-56046A4 or B-63115A4.
