finally got my new trim senders I followed the cables thru the transom (I have a 2000 alpha 1 gen 2 drive everything is off rebuilding all the bellows and hoses) but and this is the big question the port side sender does not connect to anything back there its just wrapped up and zip ties to the back. the starboard side is connected. now I have no gauge in my dash to show the up and down of the outdrive is the port side sender just to show if I had a gauge when my outdrive is up or down

The port side is the trim limit and the starboard is the trim gauge. Sounds like you have them installed backwards. If you had a gauge it would be used, but as you say its just for show now

The two (male bullet type) connectors on the "port" trim limit switch plug into two female connectors, one with a purple/white wire and the other with two blue/white wires. It does not matter which black wire plunges into which connector. They should be somewhere in the port side stern.

Don't some of them have "dummy" switches? Just an empty housing to fill up that space when they don't have a gauge or something like that I remember reading while looking up information on my sender. Jim.

Each 'sender' has a couple of letters on it. T.L for the limit switch, T.S for the gauge sender. T.L goes portside, T.S goes starboard side. Not uncommon for the T.L to not be connected... Usually the plugs on the harness are jumpered together and the UP switch will take the drive ALL the way UP....
