Trim sender wire identification

I have a question about volvo penta trim sender (384 9411) wire identification.
According to diagram black wire is - ,black/brown is data but there is no mention of white.
is white wire only for testing?
I'm replacing analog trim gauge with digital. Gauge has 3 inputs + - and data

I guess I'll just have to disregard the white wire and see what happens

I think the 3 wire sender was used if you used the electronic limit switch cutout to control outdrive lift height used in swim step applications. Systems never worked most people removed and just put stops in trim cylinders. You should only need the two wires
