Trim sending unit

I am in the process of re-assembling my power trim pump and motor bracket and am wondering if I need to use the trim and tilt sending unit for the dash gauge. I never really used the guage and took it out in place of a water pressure gauge. My question is the sending unit necessary for the operation of the trim and tilt unit or is it on it's own. I would rather not use it if possible.

if ya dont wish to use it dont hook it up. it has nothing to do with trim/tilt operation. its only for helmsman aid.

Thank for that I couldn't really tell from the wiring diagram.
