I have seen some 6+year old threads on the trim sensor for a Volvo Penta DP-SM model, but nothing current. I purchased the 1999 model boat about a month ago and have had it out 10 or so times. This weekend, the Trim gauge started acting up. In most cases it was fixed on the full up position but would randomly work correctly. I see the Sensor and there is no visible damage to the unit or the wiring so I am not convincd the sensor is bad. Especially not $200 + convinced. Any similar situations out there or recommendations before changing the unit?
Serial number for the drive unit is 4112059993

They are an issue and seem to go out frequently. I have not replaced mine since it went out 4 years ago. I need to, but I have never taken the time. Maybe this fall.

Those senders go out all the time. They are a little over $100 and they fail because water leaks into them and corrodes the pot windings. They will look fine from the outside. They keep changing part numbers on them because they haven't come up with something that lasts.

I won't be changing mine the next time it fails.
