The trim gauge on my 2001 Bryant 214 ( 5.7 GSi PEFS DP-SM)goes to the full up position when I turn the ignition on and stays there. I'm guessing the trim sensor is no good, but here lays the problem. Previous owners have removed the plug from the sensor wires to the main harness and two of the wires are joined and and a red wire from the sensor is just hanging loose. The sensor is a 3 wire type and has a part # VP-3858212 on it. My question is, is this the correct sensor and why would the red wire be connected to nothing? I have tried to search part numbers to check for the correct sensor etc. but being outside the US i can't access Volvo parts lists. Any help appreciated.

3849411 is the part number of the new switch. Only 2 wires are used with the 3 wire switch how you ended up with a switch with a red wire is beyond me. Here is some info on replacing the sender and how it should be wired.
