I have got an Evinrude 1983 70Hp outboard and the trim sensor is faulty. So i have looked for a replacement and the ones that i have seem cost a fair bit so i have decided tro fix mine. I have taken out the potentiometer from its housing and searched for the part code but cant find it. Apparently the company that made it were brought out in 1986.

Does anyone know of a replacement potentiometer that i can fit. Or know what the spec of the standard one is?

Because mine in broken i cant work out what range it should have.

Thanks for any help!

Re: Trim Sensor

Re: Trim Sensor

Measure my new spare sensor and it goes from 10 to 140 ohms. I have a 70hp Johnson that uses the same T&T unit and sensor as yours.

Re: Trim Sensor

Would you be able to take the arm of it and give the full rotation reading?

Thanks

I will have to take a look at it Saturday to see how easy it is to take off and put back on in the correct place. Hope you understand that not anxious to dismantle and possibly ruin a perfectly good unused sensor. I'll let you know.

Re: Trim Sensor

Well looked at my spare trim sensor and it has a press on washer holding the arm on. Sorry, but don't think I want to mess with it as I'll have to replace the press on washer after I remove the original. Was hoping it was held on with a nul, but unfortunately not the case.
