My 87 90HP evinrude is missing the "trim" pin, the pin the motor bottoms out on when you trim down the motor. The motor has actually dented the side of the trim cylinder housing from coming down right onto it. No damage to the seals (yet) thank goodness.

Anyway, the last hole, lowest one, has a rust stain so there used to be a pin there but now it's missing. I guess it fell out.

My question is, can I just put a solid brass pin or a cold rolled steel pin in there. It's an odd ball size like 9/16" or 37/64" but I can probably turn down some standard size stock on a lathe. I haven't called the dealer for a new pin for fear it may cost a lot.

Your suggestion always appreciated

You're right, they are overpriced for what they are. About 130 bucks if memory serves correctly.

If you do fab one up, find a way to 'lock' it in place.

also they are rarely bought new, call one of the many salvage yards and get one used.

I made mine out of stainless steel, accually the aggitator shaft out of an old Maytag washer. It happened to be the right size. Might find something at a scrap yard that would work.

Search Ebay using the term Tilt Pin. Some less that $20.00...
