trim switch help johnson 90 1991

hello my trim only works from the engine switch and iv tested the switch on controls and it works, looks like my wire harness has been messed with my mechanic says it would be expensive to trouble shoot wiring so could i just wire in another switch to the engine switch wires and run it up to controls or is this a bad idea????

Two things I would do. Repair what you have in the boat and find a different mechanic. That is one of the simplest systems on the boat. And yes, you can bypass the boat wiring from from the control to the mtr.

i fixed it found a broken wire in the harness patched it up good to go thx there is only one mechanic in my area lol
