trim switch problems

I have a merc. 50 on boat,was having problems with trim going up,replaced relay on up side, went out yesterday and raised and lowered several times, no problem,as I was docking I needed to raise motor and it would not raise, it will lower but not raise, I have switch on controls and switch on side of motor, neither will raise it cannot believe both switches went bad at same time, Any thoughts or ideas appreciated.
