The trim/tilt switch on my OMC controls is not working properly. The switch is very unresponsive, and you have to push up or down on it at just the right angle to raise or lower the engine. Is that switch replaceable? If so, what type of switch would I need? Thanks

Re: Trim Switch

Check the connections for corrosion, and do not forget the relays. thae switch should be replacable if it is in fact bad, you should be able to pick it up at most part houses.

Re: Trim Switch

I have an old Evinrude switch on my Force 40 hp (by Mercury) outboard. The point here is the switch is a simple switch with dry contact closures. While the switch became suspect early on (because it was so old), it took me a while to finally diagnose faulty relays. It may have cost me a new trim/tilt motor before realizing both relays were faulty, but I found the motor had water getting into it anyway. Don't try to clean the relay contact either. It's a cheap way that usually postpones the inevitable relay replacement anyway.

Re: Trim Switch

I think it's just the physical switch itself. The trim/tilt has no problem raising or lowering when you press it right, but the switch feels loose on the throttle lever. TD, the motor is a 1988 140hp johnson. The controls are the "red plug" style.
