Is the anode trim tab bolt for alpha one lower unit supposed to be stainless or not? Mine is not stainless and the head is coroded from 3/8 allen now a 10mm allen fits it. everone is closed today and the hardware store that is open only has it in regular allen head bolts not stainless....any thoughts? I will be taking this apart next year again to do the water pump again, should only be used in freshwater. What would you guys do?

Thanks for confirming it should be stainless, I decided to get the right bolt and cap for the access hole tomorrow......hopefully I can get one around here as it seems most shops around here are not stocking many parts.

Re: Trim tab bolt

Well I got the lower unit all together tonight, new bolt cap and lower oil seal, I left out the o-ring at the top of the drive shaft as many have suggested. Pressure tested it and all is good, as soon as I get the new bellows, water hose, starter, manifolds and risers and new battery installed I can finally go boating again.......I hope we have a good summer for once.:)

put a little smear of perfectseal across the threads and it will come out easier next time it needs to come off.
