Trim Tab?

I just bought a 1995 Kingfisher 21' CC with a 1995 Evinrude 175hp. The first time I took the boat out I noticed that it was pulling to the right. The faster I went the worse it was. This wasent just a little, it was so bad that I had to slow way down. When I got back home I tried to move the trim tab to the right. To find out that the trim tab was already all the way to the right. The AV plate is with in an inch of the bottom of the boat. And the motor is centered. Is there any thing I can do to keep it from pulling to the right so bad?

Thanks,
Robert

Try moving it back to the center and see what happens.did you get it trimed up good while running?

Yes - trim has a big effect on this.

There was another thread somewhere that discussed this.

Yes I had it trimmed up to achive the max rpm's. And it still was pulling hard to the right.

What prop you running on that 175?if it was the first time you took it out it maybe your not use to it and the prop iself ic contributing to the pull on my 175 spme props pull harder than others we just calling it sterring touqur or fatigue.

Re: Trim Tab?

I have no idea what kinda prop it is. I know its a 14 1/2" X 19. It might just be the torque from the motor, but should it be that bad. Bad enough that if you let go of the wheel its going to cut right.

I have an 85hp on a 16' tri hull that will run straight and true if you let go. Also my buddy has a 70hp on a 16' alum flat bottom, and it will run straight and true.

Like you said maybe its just the characteristics of a big motor. I have never drove one this big. But if it is it's going to ware me out before getting to where I fish.

Thanks,
Robert

Re: Trim Tab?

My last boat had a 175 Mariner and I remember that at certain trim positions it would pull left or right to some degree, but that when I had it trimmed level, almost no pull whatsoever either way...

So I am thinking either trim or motor mounted incorrectly - just my thoughts.

Is this something you could run by the previous owner?

All the bigger motors ive every run,if ya let go of the wheel its going to turn hard no way around that unless you got hydrolic steering. it does get a little better with more trim but ya still got to drive it.a 4 blade in some cases is supose to have a little less fatigue but the newer 3 blades i have tried actually had less than the 4 blade.there will be a sweet part in the trim were its not as bad.

Take a good hard look at the skeg below the gearcase...make sure it isn't bent from hitting something.
Also, make sure someone didn't put a torq-tamer on the skeg on the wrong side.
