It's fairly straight-forward:<br /><br />When you move the tabs down the water passing under it pushes up = creates a lift. This equals a down force on the bow.<br /><br />Helpful when getting on plane. Once on plane the trim tabs can be used for adjusting the bow ride height to make a clean plane and improve comfort when planing on rough water.<br /><br />As a side wind will push a planing boat to one side, the helmsman (that's you) must compensate by turning slightly against it. A hull leans inwards in turns and will obey the turning helmsman so your slight turn makes it lean towards the wind. The boat leans but you actually go straight ahead. By using only one trim tab you can lift one side and stop the leaning.
