Hey everyone. I have been thinking about something lately. My boat did not originally come with Trim tabs (that i know of... when i got it partially taken apart it did not have trim tabs or any hardware like i said that i know of)

Seeing as trim tabs are anywhere from 300-700 and up in price. I wouldnt mind making a sound investment if it meant increasing the performance of the boat. I have seen videos on installation and it seems pretty generic. Since my boat is a 1974 i dont even think they had trim tabs... are all trim tabs universal? or do i need to find some that are made by volvo... (shows u how much i know)

Any input is appreciated. Thanks

PS: I didnt know which forum to post it in, but i figure if it has something to do with the hull it should go here .thanks

Do you really have the need to adjust the tabs? I'd look at SmartTabs. I have them on my 17' and they're great.

Ok... so they are all universal than... I have Trim controls on my new Throttle and i would like to utilize them. If it means i have to work a few extra weekends of overtime to buy them than so be it! Thanks for your input

The trim button on the control is for the outdrive (you may or may not have trim on your motor) not for trim tabs, the tabs are controlled by their own switch. First do you need trim tabs? if you do there are less costly options that will work well for you.

The "Smart Tabs" would probably be the way to go on that size boat...Ron Popeil would be proud...a "set it and forget it" item!

Thanks oops for correcting that.
Ondarvr yea i dont have trim on my outdrive, so i guess i could make that button do something else, like volume up and down on my stereo... or just leave it alone all together.
That what i was trying to figure out, Do i need them? I guess the only way would be to put it in the water and run it for a season than maybe think about it... Which is also a great idea,

I will research Smart Tabs today thank you everyone
