I have a 22' Palm Beach cuddy cabin with a 200hp Merc, I have a very hard time getting the boat to plane out , especially if I have a few people on board. Once she planes out, she runs great. The prop is good, the hull is clean and I always trim the motor all the way down when taking off. Would some sort of mechanical trim tab help? Any suggestions? Thanks, Mike

Tabs always help, and not just with planing issues. Allow you to put a little more hull in the water and maintain speed in the rough stuff, help you level out a ride, etc. Bennetts or Lencos. I like Lencos myself, although both have excellent CS. Others will chime in, I'm sure...

Planing is having the ability to climb and overtake the bow wave created when the boat displaces water as it moves forward.

You need power to make this happen, and the right prop to apply that power ...having a planing hull helps, too ;)

Trim tabs, lowered into the water, might help keep the nose down a touch so you can see a bit better as you are trying to climb/overtake the bow wave, but I am not so sure they are going to make you plane.
