trim tabs seem too strong

Hi I just got a set of the trim tabs with the gas shocks on them from a friend who took them off his boat when he sold it. Any way he had a 17 foot Baja and I have a 18 foot checkmate eluder. the trim plates help some but they seem to really nose the boat down ... maybe too much .. not real sure. I have a 150 mercury and when I try to trim it up a bit to get some of the hull out of the water I get a bad bounce. Do I have the trim tabs set at too much of a angle to begin with ? or are the shocks too strong he gave me two pair I put on the 90 pound ones. the 60 pound one seemed too weak

Did you follow the instalation instructions to the "T"???

25 Degree starting place. You probably need the 60#ers, I think the 90s are too stiff, I have the 60s on my 18' Bass boat and they are perfect. I had to actually soften them at that and soften the angle some.

If you need the installation manual go to www.nauticusinc.com and down load.

The best way to tell if the actuators are too stiff is to adjsut all of the settings in the middle with a 25 degree angle of initial deployment. Then test the boat. It sould run 2 to 4 MPH faster at full throttle. If it is running slower, reduce the pressure.

By the way the 80 Lb. actuators are too stiff for your boat.

If you would like call me at 800-233-0194.

Hey thanks for the info I will check out my settings . we just set everything up the way he rembered.. tabs are flush with the bottom of the boat at the leading edge. we set the adjusters at about the middle. and I am gonna have to check on the angle .. thanks for the great infornmation I do like how they settle the boat, but just thinking that the boat should run that flat on the water

The tabs are supposed to be up 1/2" off the bottom of the boat at the hinge. Ie: bottom of the plate is 1/2" above the bottom of the boat. If it is too low, you will get permanent lift and run bow down. The easiy way to correct this is to invert the hinge so the the center of the hinge is on top. This will allow you to use the same holes.
