Im installing new seals 1999 Johnson 150 hp trim cylinder cap. I took the old seals out without taking note of which way to install new seals. Do the ridges on the new seals go up or down when installing them in the cap? Thanks to anyone who can answer this question.

Re: Trim/tilt Cylinder Cap Seals

external cap seals should be installed so that they scrape exterior debris away from piston shaft.

On some systems J/E used a u-cup for the internal seal. If your system has a u-cup you should put the ucup into the groove with the U opening facing downward and insert the piston from top.

Did the seals come in the $75 o-ring and seal kit (0434519), or did you find them separate? My tilt and trim is messed up and can’t figure out if they are included in the kit. Also were the seals included for the tilt piston valve assembly?

All the seals and o-rings you need come in the kit. I got the kit off ebay for $59. I called someone from he shop.evinrude.com website about buying the single seals and they said they didn't know if they'll fit, so I just bought the kit. Here is the link from ebay.
