Hello, I have a 1978 Johnson 115hp Crossflow V4. It has a power trim/tilt with the older solenoid wiring setup. I also have a 1982 Evinrude 115hp Crossflow V4 that I have been using for parts. It has a power trim/tilt with the relay wiring setup. It works much better than the one on the Johnson. I want to swap them. How difficult would that be, and, what's involved in converting to the relay type. Thanks

Install the trim / tilt ( 2 wire motor ) of the 82 on the 78.----Install the 82 electrical bits on the 78 as well.-----Trim and tilt switch on the 78 control can stay.

Changing over the motor and electrical stuff is pretty easy. That is routinely done, when buying a new PTT motor as they usually come in the two-wire version, with the relay kit and harness.

Of course, that presupposes the mechanical parts of the PTT on the older motor are still good. Also, PTT motors usually work or they don't. If the old PTT motor still works, but is slow, you might clean the electrical connections first and see i that fixes it.

I do not know if the mechanical parts of the PTT on the newer motor will fit on the older one. Racerone likely knows that answer.
