Trim/tilt goes on automatically

?I came in from fishing today and cleaned the boat. A few hours later my son came in saying my engine was making noises. It was the trim/tilt. It just started going down and would not stop. I disconnected the battery and waited. It started again. Any suggestion as to the problem and a fix?

Either one of your trim switches is stuck or is going bad or your down relay is stuck or taking a crap on you. Check the blue/green wire connection just below the relay box and see if it has any corrosion in it. Good luck

Had this problem once due to getting water in connection .

just as a follow up. I have a engine switch and a console switch and neither works any better or worse than the other;.

not to sounds dumb, but do you mean a model # for the trim/tilt or the engine?? It is a 1996 70 hp johnson. Let me know any info you need and i will get it.

just as a follow up. I have a engine switch and a console switch and neither works any better or worse than the other;.

When the PTT is running all by itself, simply disconnect one PTT switch or the other to reveal the faulty one.
