Hi gentlemen, I have not been here in a while. I took the boat out, and on coming back into the dock, the trim/tilt would not go up  . It would go down more, which was a bad thing at the time, but in going up, the relay clicked, but nothing moved, nothing else happened. This is a 97 Ocean Pro with the fast track system. Since I had three adults there to watch, I told them I would pull up very slowly and they could tell me if I was going to hit bottom. When they yelled stop, I had already hit, and bent one blade on the prop  . Funny thing is, for some reason now the trim/tilt unit decided to work again. I got it home, and I cannot get it to malfunction again. Any idea's what it may have been??? I would hate to have to try the manual release and lift from the swim step, or have to jump in to do the same. I checked the fluid levels, and they are okay, I got the same response from the remote and the control buttons on the motor, and like I said, down worked, and the relay for up was clicking in when I hit the button, maybe an internal problem on the tilt motor???
Thanks for any help,
Don T

Re: Trim/tilt got stuck in down position, HELP

I have pondered this problem for a while Don and have come to the conclusion that the prop blade was just to straight for the TNT to work... :)

Seriously, would not think the motor is at fault since it did work in the down direction. Only two brushes in there for both up and down.

I would suggest looking at connections. The jar of hitting the prop apparently did the trick. It's also possible that the up relay, although did click was not making a good connection. If the rig does this again, swap the relays and see if that gets you a fix. Sorry 'bout the prop :(

Assuming all connections are clean and tight, a sometimes it works and sometimes it don't is typical symptoms of a solenoid going. Usually the up solenoid goes first because there is more current running thru it to get the motor up.

As above, that type problem is usually a faulty relay. The procedure would be to switch them as suggested. Good idea to have a extra one on hand, a sort of "Must Have" item for the ole toolbox.
