Have a 1976 19' Hammond Ski Boat with a 165hp In-Line 6 Mercruiser Marine (4.1 Liter 250 CID) engine with a 1970-1977 Pre-Alpha Model 165 R Outdrive. It still has the original High Pressure/Low Volume Trim/Tilt Hydraulic pump. I believe the motor to the pump has gone bad. Will not raise or lower the outdrive. Just get a slight hum from the pump with engaging the buttons. Does the motor detach from the reservoir? If so, can the motor be purchased seperately? Any help concerning this issue would be appreciated.

Re: Trim/Tilt Hydraulic Pump

Actually the reservoir is part of the motor but it does come apart there. The bottom cover on the reservoir is the pump and valve body. http://www.rivermarinesupply.com/xcart/catalog/product_12721_API_POWER_TRIM_MOTOR_PT_440ABN.html
Try touching a hot wire to the blue (up) or to the green (down) wires coming out of the pump. Be sure the pump is grounded, black wire when you do this. You can sometimes take them apart and clean the commutator on the armature and replace the brushes.

Also there are tons of them pumps on ebay if you prefere to go that route.

Often tapping with a hammer (I said tapping, not smashing) will jar the brushes loose if this is the problem. More of a diagnostic thing then a fix.
