The trim tilt is leaking between the motor and the upper pump body. Can I solve this problem? Is there a shaft seal that can be replaced. I have full pump operation at this time. I am using 30wt. non detergent motor oil for fluid.

I probably did not state this correctly. The leak is between the motor and fluid resevoir.

take entire pump off boat.
take valve body off reservoir.
undo two top bolts but DO NOT allow motor to come apart
ESPECIALLY DO NOT allow the brush cover to lift off the armature
ESPECIALLY DO NOT allow the armature to drop out of the brush cover.
AT ALL TIMES keep pressure on the end of armature so that armature, field frame, and cover do not separate.
Oh, did I mention yet DO NOT allow the motor portion to come apart?

OK, good. Now carefully pull the reservoir off of armature.
(being careful not to allow armature to pull out of brush cap)
(put brush cap in vice upside down, push armature down with thumb while lifting reservoir)
in the top of the reservoir is a size 011 oring made from BN70.
replace that oring
reassemble with new gaskets. Not silcone sealant or form-a-gasket.
New gaskets and new aluminum sealing washers.

That will fix it.

The motor is full of oil. Will this destroy the motor? I suspect it will break down the windings. Oh and I know how to reinstall the brushes now. I wish I would have listened a little more carefully. I think you warned me.

it will soften the brushes and dissolve the tape. you can buy new brushes from mercury.

hardware store will sell a white substitute for mineral spirits. It is water suloable and will dissolve oil without completely ruining the tape adhesive. wash out the oil from field windings, armature, and brush cap as best that you can. rinse with water to reduce further damage to adhesives. install new brushes using dental floss to hold them back. reassemble.
