1995 bayliner capri, 3.0 Alpha 1 gen2, My trim/tilt seemed to run in excess, it would take maybe 10 seconds just to get the drive off the floor. I pulled the motor/pump/reservoir and dumped what I thought was oil out of it and it ended up being an oil/milkshake/water combination. Is this another system that is able to pull in water and not leak out any oil? What do you guys recommend?

check the resevoir cap closely, if the top is flat with a pinhole in it for a vent odds are high thats where the water came from. the latest cp has a notched thread that vents without allowing water to drip into the system.
most the time if water can get in,oil gets out.

Checked out the cap,, it's yellow, flat and I don't see a hole anywhere. There was some serious water in this reservoir,, kind of looks like white cottage cheese in it.. m-mmm-mmmmmmm good...... Surprised it even worked.

the cap is vented, it either has notchs in the cap thread or its the old style with a very tiny pinhole, looks almost like an injection nib,on the surface. the flat one with the tiny hole was the cause of more pump and ram failures than I can count. until they came out with the new design, volvo used it too, I used to use tinfoil and a rubber band to prevent water intrusion.

Ok, how about I completely clean out the motor/reservoir and purge the fluid from the cylinder lines (I think I remember a thread about a screen mesh filter somewhere in the reservoir),, fill it with fresh and run it.. Probably will have to drain the reservoir after cycling it a few time.. And then what? If the cylinders don't have a visible leak drop it in the water and run it???

You will also need to pull that plastic reservoir off the trim pump. There are so many nooks and crannies in there that it's a real pain to clean.
Blow the lines out going to the cylinders, pull the cylinders and push and pull the rod till as empty as possible.
I always run the pump with lines going to a bucket till the pump and valves pump clean fluid.
Even at that, it may take a couple of changes, but, It can be done, just a lot of work.

Ok THanks,, that's my at work project for tomorrow.. My big concern was if the water was being sucked in somehow by the cylinders.. Thanks again..

That is a very strong possibility. That shaft seal and all the lines to the manifold under the anode can all leak. Could be a line, blow some oil out suck some water in.
Look for leaks.

Tore the pump apart, cleaned the reservoir and filters. Pulled the actuators and found one of the lines cross-threaded,, probably the source of my water. The cap does have a very small vent hole which probably added to the moisture situation. Sucked and Blew two gallons of 10w30 thru the actuators, oil is flowing clear, hope to have it put back together tomorrow. Thanks..

Re: Trim/Tilt motor milk shake.

Will this system bleed itself through the reservoir or do I need to crack some lines to get the air out?

that model is self bleeding just cycle it a few times while checking the resevoir level.
