trim/tilt motor sumberged

hi, a while ago i posted about how my bilge filled with water and sumberged a few things like my starter & alt.. well i replaced my starter with a new one but what about my hydrolic tilt motor/pump. it was under water for a day or two last summer but still works fine so should be ok? i dont want to be on the water and have it fail..(its a 3.0 merc) they are expensive but should i have it replaced? thanks in advance

Anything electrical that gets submerged (that is not sealed) will eventually fail. When is the million dollar question. The pump motor can be removed, cleaned, new brushes installed, and reinstalled, or have a new one installed. If it were mine, I would take it apart, clean and reassemble, but I try to repair before replacing ANYTHING.
