I have a 1981 165hp In-Line 6 Mercruiser. I am rebuilding the trim/tilt cylinders which happen to be of the Alpha generation. I flushed the reservoir by pouring oil into the reservoir and letting it run out the trim cyl hose. What is the best choice oil for filling the reservoir? I have 2 gal of high quality 10w-20 Hydraulic Oil. Is this a good choice or is it too light?

Re: Trim/Tilt Oil

Just about any oil that wont attack the seals is good.

ATF, Engine oil, mineral oil, hydraulic oil, PS fluid. Just don't go with a viscosity too high like gear oil.

Cal Fire changed from ATF/PS fluid years ago in favor of engine oil. 2 reasons most important being engine oil wont "mist" as bad as ATF/PS fluid (in case of a small leak) and catch fire as easily, and "B" we already carry extra engine oil and don't have to worry about running out of one or the other.

Ah, but that's over 5 years behind me now!
I looked forward to retirement for so long, Now I realize how much MORE work there is for me at home.
