My trim and tilt started acting erratic a few days ago, only working sometimes. Yesterday it just seemed to quit working. Whenever I hit the up switch I can hear the selanoid clicking but nothing happens. When I hit the down button nothing happens. There are 12 volts going to the selanoid and 12 coming out. Where do I start, what should I do first?

Make sure all your connections are clean. Give a little more info...such as... has it been sitting for a long period of time? Has it done this before? Has it been out in the weather, uncovered? You could have gotten some moisture inside the pump motor. If you've checked out your solenoid, then it sounds more like a pump motor. Is your pump topped off with fluid?

Could be the brushes in the electric motor to the pump. For the age might be prestolite starter type motor on the power pack.<br />Give it a wrap with something see if it kicks in.

llerad, by giving it a wrap do you mean like with a hammer?? How exactly do you check the fluid on this thing. I have filler screw and a vent screw, but how do I check the fluid? excuse the ignorance guys, but I have never dealt with anything like this. My seloc manual is really not very intuitive on this subject. If the reservoir is low how do I know how much to put in?

Well guys I tried giving it a good wrap but still nothing. I also tried getting the motor to work directly from the battery with no succes. This was all after confirming that I had been running it with no fluid. So if thsi is like anything else, I have burnt the motor out because of it or should I get it tested first? Is there a rebuild kit for it or should simply buy another one?

I would remove the motor and take it apart. See what condition the inside is in. You may only need brushes...then again, if it was like mine, it could be so corroded inside from moisture that you might have to replace it.

I went ahead and took it apart and the inside looks pretty good. The brushes are definately well worn. I have never tried my handat doing anything like this but for the price of getting anew motor I guess it would be well worth my effort. Any words of wisdom before I tackle this!!! ;)
