Went to get out of the lake last night and my trim would not come up (no noise from the pump). The pump comes on fine when selecting down. Checked the voltage to the trim switch (both sides) and the voltage is good. Any suggestions? Could a soleniod be the problem? This is on an 1983 Mercruiser, model # 470 (170 hp).

P.S. Is there anyone that can tell me how to get this engine to quit vapor locking, its stalling out after shutdown then restarting.......

I had simular problems and I found a loose wire in one instance (bad wire job form previous owner)and the second time I was low on tilt/trim fluid.

-JustMrWill

I had the same problem and it was actually the wires to the motor were crossed. Mine only went up and not down, so I played with the relays thinking that was it, but it was the motor wires crossed from previous owner.

UP,DOWN and TRAILER? if you have a trailer switch your engine will only tilt up a bit. you need to to hit the trailer button to get it up all the way (if you have one)

Jim
