I got a 1991 Bayliner Capri w/ an outboard 90hp Force. First time boat owner. Bought the boat, the guy said "you have to 'keep on' the trim, the motor will start to fall back down"...and he kept a 2"x8" board under the motor when he had it out of the water to keep the motor from settling back down. i noticed what he meant about keeping on the trim while the boat was in the water. then it got worse. with passengers in the boat, i couldnt get up to speed cause i couldnt trim the motor up? trim, right? but i could trim it up to speed when i was alone in the boat. now it wont go at all. i had the main cylinder rebuilt, no leaks visible...there is an additional cylinder but no lines are connected...anyway the trim/tilt will not keep the motor up and when i get it in water its not able to lift the motor to get going....i'm just a 5000rpm, 10mph, wake makin machine?? is it the pump? ~trim/tilt will raise the motor out of water but motor settles slowly ~no leaks ~rebuilt cylinder ~motor wont lift in water

Re: Trim/Tilt Problems

Something is letting the pressure out and that is why it is dropping. My guess is that it is the second ram not being hooked up.

Generally you don't need to trim up to get a boat going. You usually trim up at plane to get more boat out of the water. This will be a problem for you if it won't stay.

It sounds like the boat doesn't have the power to get the passengers and you and the boat out of the water. That could be a motor issue or a prop issue.

You should have said no thanks and moved on when he said you have to "keep on" the trim. It's kind of like going to buy a car and the guy says you have to keep on the driveshaft or it will fall out on you.

Before you go any further, have the boat evaluated to understand what you've got (rotten inside, bad motor?) and that way you don't throw money into a money pit. By the way, all boats are money pits.
