Trim Tilt Question Mercruiser Alpha Gen II going from full up tilt to down postion

I noticed yesterday that when my drive was in the full up ("trailer") position when I pressed the down button it just clicked. After a few tries it would engage and drive would go full travel with no problems. All other functions of trim and tilt worked fine all day. NOTE: The problem was only intermittent.

down solenoid going bad or a corroded connection. may be a stuck brush in the motor itself

You are having problems with your down solenoid, the one with the green/white wires. Plan on replacing the solenoid.

Try taking the wire and the strap off the down solenoid, then slightly loosen the nuts that are UNDER the wire and strap. If these are too tight it can cause intermittent contact inside the solenoid. When replaceing the wire and the strap, be sure to hold the nuts closest to the solenoid body while tightening the nuts that hold on the wire and strap.
