Trim Tilt Question

I have a 87 Evinrude 50 HP VRO. When raising the motor it goes pretty quick until it hits a cetain point and then goes really slow, almost struggling. Also when under load (full throttle)the trim motor only goes to a certain point then stops. If you let off throttle, it will go up the rest of the way. Is this a safety feature? What about the slow raising? Would a pump motor rebuild be in order? Any other suggestsions?

Re: Trim Tilt Question

Have you checked the fluid level in the reservoir? Remember that when checking the for level, the engine should be tilted all the way up. The correct level is when the fluid with the bottom of the fill hole.

From my manual (I don't know if yours is the same but I would think so):<br /><br />"The outboard can be operated while tilted past the initial 15(degrees) for shallow water driving. Above approx 1500rpm, the trim up relief valve opens automatically, lowering the motor to the fully trimmed out position. Attempts to tilt the motor when operating over 1500 rpm will have no effect."<br /><br />Hope that helps with part of your question.
