trim/tilt question

im a n00b .. but dont have power/trim on the boat. but what does the different adjustments heights of the motor do? i just have the slide out pin and readjust.

Bassfshr, The slide out pin only controls the trim of the motor (the tilt angle of the foot of the motor). The different heights of the motor means moving the whole motor itself up or down on the transom, most boats will attain a higher speed if the anti ventilation plate is about 1" or higher above the bottom of the boat instead of even with the bottom of the boat because it reduces drag from the motor itself.

And when you trim your motor back it should bring the front of the up for a better plane.

Setting the pin so the motor is pivoted all the way down will very likely cause the bow of the boat to plow through the water. If you set the pin so the motor is tilted too far outward, the bow will rise dramatically and you may have trouble getting on plane. You need to experiement with those settings so that the boat plains easily with minimum bow rise and doesn't porpoise (bounce up and down) at speed.
