trim\tilt relief valve

I loosened this valve to let my outboard down, turned it back in to snug, not overtighten. I had to loosen it 3 times. I found the problem causing my trim\tilt to not work. There was a break in the wires from where they were pinched from the cover. Now the relief valve leaks, not heavy, but slow and steady. Any remedies? Where would I get a seal if it needs to be replaced?

TIA

45 inch lbs on my 1994 150, thats rather tight,
I didn't use a torque wrench and it didn't seal just using a screwdriver by hand until I put a wrench on the screwdriver shaft.

Thanks for the reply, I am starting to think that maybe I turned the screw out to far. I will try to torque to 45 in\lbs.

Re: trim\tilt relief valve

OK, it is still leaking, I believe I read it here on this forum that t if the screw is turned out to far, this will happen, is this true? If so, how far out is to far? The screw never seemed to bind or anything, I believe I turned it one, or one and a half turns out. How hard is the seal to replace? I know I have to remove the pump assembly, but after that has been removed. Is there any other methods that can be tried that may have worked for others? Short of filling the screw\seal and hole with silicone, I have no ideas (J/K with the silicone). I found on the Johnson website the entire screw\seal assembly for $71 and Ebay for the same item for $69 both + shipping. It does not leak until the trim is used. either going up or down. the problem was a bad connection at the wire harness for the pump motor.

You will need the snap ring #0321362 and the o-ring #0202893 to get a good seal on the relief valve.

If you turn the valve too far without first removing the snap ring, it will break the snap ring.

Re: trim\tilt relief valve

have been searching for a how to on repairing this. Does anyone know where I can find one? I checked out a Evinrude\Johnson shop manual by Clymer, but it is not in that book. Maybe the Selco manual?

What I am wondering about this is do I use a hook and pick set to remove the snap ring? Is there a certain way to remove and install the snap ring? How fragile is it?

Re: trim\tilt relief valve

You would probably need a factory service manual for your motor, but you basically remove the snap ring with a small snap ring tool or a small pair of needle nosed pliers with the valve screwed all of the way in.

Once the ring is removed you would remove the valve and inspect the o-ring. If the two plastic split rings on the valve are damaged, you would need to replace the valve.

Re: trim\tilt relief valve

Thanks for the link, but the web address does not cover my motor as of yet. I have a Evinrude 70HP (E70TLCEM). I ordered the O-ring and Snap ring from the Evinrude site.
