I have a 1998 sea ray 190 with a alpha I outdrive. I took my boat out all weekend and it worked perfectly. got home and was lowering the outdrive to drain all the water out, then went to raise it up a hair and the up butoon no longer works, but the trailer button works just fine, is it the switch?

maybe, but more likely your trim limit sender is shot. with the drive down, you should have continuity across the 2 wires coming from the sender, which is the one on the port side of the drive.

If the up button stoped suddenly to work, even if the drive is full down and till then everything was fine and adjusted, i believe that the trim button (up/down) at the remote control is the problem. But just in case, first start to search the problem trying to re-adjust the limit sensor unit at the port side of the drive.

On all sterndrives there is a safety feature so that you have to have the lower unit ALL the way down for the trim up to work. So unless you are sure the lower unit is ALL the way down, there is probably no problem. Once you go down to a cartain point, the trim up button works. No worries

Pretty easy to determine where the problem is. With the trim all the way down. Locate the wires from the port side limit switch: Two black wires that go into a connector with blue/white and purple/white wires. Unplug. With multimeter measure resistance across black wires. Should read 0 ohms with trim down. If not, bad limit switch. Second test, jumper wire between b/w and p/w connectors. Try trim up. If works bad limit switch, if not bad wire or control handle switch. Good luck.
