Hello All,
Getting closer and closer to being able to take the boat out for long cruises, but ran into another issue. Please recall I now own a 1997 Mercruiser 4.3L
Anyhow, I can hit the down switch on the shift lever and the outdrive will go down, however, hit the up switch (Up and down is a rocker switch) and nothing happens.
I used a screwdriver to jump the solenoid and the Up works perfectly, what do you think is the issue? Bad solenoid or wiring?

Thanks again for all your help

Rick

Probably a bad trim limit switch v solenoid. Does the trailer button raise the drive?

+1 agree, probably the trim limit. To test find the blue/white and purple/white wires and connect them together

On some, there is a different switch for up.. Also, on some.. you have to hold both UP buttons to make it raise at the same time.

If you have to hold both buttons to raise the drive, it is your trim limit switch. That second button is to bypass the switch and raise it for trailering, not for running.

OK,
Got it to go up somewhat with the trim up switch, I can lower it fully, then hit the trim up switch, but the up is limited to just up a bit, I found another switch about half way down on the throttle level, when I hit that switch I can go up all the way. Now I do not know what to do or think

Thanks,

Rick

The one that brought it all the way up is the trailer switch, and its used to bring up full to load on trailer.
The trim up switch is controlled by the limit switch on the starboard side of the gimbal ring. This is adjusted so it will not come up to high when running

Ayuh,.... The 1st switch is for Trim, the 2nd switch is for Tilt,...

Ya never run the motor in the Tilt range, only in the Trim range,....

If it wasn't clear what Bondo and AllDodge were saying; sounds like it's operating normally.

It is working correctly. The one switch prevents you from raising the drive up too far while the motor is going. The other switch is your trailer switch, which allows you to raise the drive past its "safe operational point" to put the boat on a trailer, or beach, or whatever.
