I have a 1987 75hp evinrude on the back of my bass boat it is a 1987 cagun the trim will go down but will not go up with the switch. If you cross the silnoid in the back it will go up. I have replaced the silnoid but same problem. Checked the switch its good. I am at wits end

Probably already checked this,,, but,,, did you check all the wiring going to the switch? I had a broken wire on mine which was doing the same as yours is doing. Hope it helps. Wayne

yeah tried that the thinhg is that i am able to cross the silnoid and get it to work. there is power at the switch but olny to one side this makes it go down nothing on the up. the multimeter is showing power missing somewhere in the blue and white striped wire. hope to have this done hate using a screw driver a raise the motor

Check the soldered joints on the wires to the switch. There could be a bad one get a hot iron & resolder each connection..

tired that there is a wire link right before the silnoid tired crossing wires there same thing down but not up that why i think that it has to be something in or around the silnoid.

My '92 Johnson has two relays in a box on the back of the powerhead. One relay for up - the other for down. My motor would go up but not down. I replaced one of the relays for $5 at NAPA. Now it works perfectly.

Re: trim will not go up

ok sorry just had the numbers ran on this motor i was told it was a 87 but the numbers say that it is a 81 i have traced the wires and replaced the solenoid twice just in case that i got a bad one nothing still the only way that i can get this thing to trim up is to cross the 2 main posts on the solenoid....still pulling my hair out over this one is there any differance between a auto solenoid and a marine one parts guy told me that there was no differance so i went with it
