Re: Trim wont work/ No engine will not start

Howdy,

Welcome to iboats!!

Electrical problems in boats are MOST frequently poor connections due to corrosion. This can happen in every crimped wire connection and every connector.

It's very common in one or more ground connections either at the battery or at the bolt where it's connected to the block or even in the crimped connection itself!

If you want to work on your OMC powered boat, and you do not have an OEM OMC service manual, now would be a good time to get one.

Regards,

Rick

Thanks Rick, Well the original problem was the tilt/trim wouldnt raise, so we cleaned out the Trim pump motor really well then put it back on. When put on it made a clicking noise, Then we tried to manually lower the tilt/trim and something went wrong after putting it back on. Now the engine that was running strong is now only turning over but wont start. Things we have checked and replaced: 2 cylanoids, checked fuses, wires for coroson.. this is so frusterating...

Solenoids do wear out. That shouldn't affect the engine running though (the trim circuit is usually completely independent of the rest of the electrical circuit)

Assuming the coil/points/dist are ok, It sounds like you may have a wiring error someplace........

The service manual has a good electrical trouble shooting section.....It'll help you trouble shoot the shift linkage/switches/esa etc....

You might have popped one or both of the 50 amp fuses on the motor just above the starter. If you pop those, nothing happens. Could have popped from a bunch of reasons, but you should carry some spares & figure out why it popped (if that's the problem).
