Almost have the carb situation taken care of, but I have another problem at the same time...my trim.

1982 OMC 2.5 liter. The trim is a screw type jack that is mounted in front of the engine.

The previous owner said he had a problem before with the trim not working. It (the selenoid) would just click and nothing else. No lift. Had it replaced and it had been working fine. And it was working on the fourth. Now it will just click again. I am able to take a wrench and socket and manually raise/lower the engine and when I do, the electric trim will start working, then quit again.

He told me that if it quit working to short the selenoid with a screwdrive between the terminals but that does not work. I don't even get a spark or any signs of power when doing so. I did not have a voltage meter with me so I used a small test light and it showed power between the terminals. Any ideas as to what is going on here?

I seem to think that it may be corrosion. Something to the effect of there being enough power to make the test light work, but not enough to power the trim.

I have the engine raised up at this time to keep the bow down, but I would like to have it functional. The rubber boot is busted so I will have to replace that too. Also, is there a limiting device that stops the trim from tilting to high or too low? There is small unit with two wires on front of the tilt mechanism, at the bottom of the jack. Does this limit travel? I took it off and used the wrench and socket without it in place and may have offset it.
