Hey There:
From the "Stupid Questions File", I've dug up another one. My motor (9.9 Johnson Seahorse) has a 5 position set of holes that a pin goes through. As probably most motors do.
With a 12 ft. Aluminum Springbok, 2 Morons(me and the father-in-law), and a Deep Cycle battery, which position should I have the pin in? Do we want the prop paralell with the surface of the water? I guess, in a Tinny, it wouldn't matter too much.
And it this what they mean when you trim the motor? It is in the 4th lowest hole, right now.
Should I move it either side?
Thanks for any help you can give.
These inane questions will, hopefully, stop as the years go on..

Kerry

Re: Trim

Well Mr. Rattler lets see if we can help a little bit. I have a 12' tinny with a 1975 9.9 johnny (longshaft would you believe - on a short shaft transom). I have mine set on the middle hole. I sit back by the motor and wifey + the 6 gal tank go in the middle seat (lone gas line). Runs just fine and will plane comfortably. You may have to go in or out a hole due to the angle of the transom.

Re: Trim

Trial and error will provide the answer.
Every rig will respond a little differently to power, load, hull shape, weight distribution.

Re: Trim

Thanks for the replies,
The previous owner had the pin in the middle set of holes as well. In my hurry to find out what everything was for...after I took the pin out, I forgot which position it was in.
As there were no obvious wear-marks on it, I had to guess. Seems I was almost right.
I have to take a minute to thank the moderators and all the normal people who have answers to questions that would seem obvious to most people. I have been in ATV forums, where they seem to be a bit more "balls to the wall", in their attitude towards their sport. (Got me a Honda 450ES).
Just nice to ask a simple question and get the best answers! Thanks alot.

Kerry
