Trip Odometer & Odometer slow or not measuring

92 Caprice wagon, 700R4 trans, Speedo works fine the odometers are measuring 1/4 of the actual miles or less.

Is this a electric sensor issue or a possible gear in the trans?

What should I be looking at?

My last tank of gas netted 8mpg. Now I'm down to 2 mpg, I was shocked until I noticed the mileage wasn't right.:redface:

The instrument cluster is electrically driven, if the speedometer is reading correctly then the odometer drive motor is defective. You need to pull the cluster out and send it to a repair facility that services these units or bring your car to a instrument cluster repair shop, not your regular local repair shop, they would just pull it out and send it out for repair.

Thanks for the info. I do have a parts vehicle, my old wagon that was crushed by a tree. I'll pull the cluster from that and change it out.

Now I know it's all electric.
