Here are some photos from a trip I took to Egmont Key today.

Egmont Key was a military installation constructed around the time of the Spanish/American war, it was in operation with several large battlements and artillery installations until the early 20th century. There was a Post Office, school, several barracks and living quarters, and even a YMCA. It is now a state park that is accessible only by boat; there is a ferry that departs from Fort Desoto park on the mainland. It is a favorite destination of many local boaters with beautiful aquamarine waters surrounding the white sugary sand.

Hope you enjoy!

No problem. It's not as good as being there, but I think the architecture of the structures is really interesting, especially since these were utilitarian. It seems that whoever designed these still had an eye for aesthetics. The lines of the buildings seem to look better with the black and white. I think it is great this island is now a state park; the birds, lizards, and turtles seem to think so too!

Been to Edgmont Key many times as as kid. Many moons ago.
From the pics, it looks like nothing has changed (hard to say in Florida anywhere these days).
And I agree with Bruce... An artist's eye.

Awesome pictures! Beautiful lines and contrasts. Some of those shots are frame ready! Thanks for sharing them! Mind if I borrow a few for screen savers?

Glad you all are enjoying the photos. Definitely use them for screen savers!

I enjoy taking pictures; I take shots of things that are interesting to me or catch my eye for one reason or another. The old structures on the island have interesting lines that I really like. It is awesome that even though these things were constructed for the purposes they were, there was attention paid to aesthetics. The round windows, arched walkways, and the stairs are just the coolest!

It brought back memorys for me too.
I got bit by a moray eel when I was about 11 or 12 under the old pier pilings on Egmont. So did my dad when he pulled it off me.
The island used to be full of wild chickens.
The channel between Egmont and Ft. Desoto was excellent King and Mack fishing. Could of swore I saw a whale surface in that channel one time.
Most of our trips (1960's)to Egmont we were the only people on the whole island.
