trolling depth inquiry + directional question

I have an Evinrude 12v with the pedal and would like to know how deep should the prop be in relation to the hull. I have a 14'vhull. I would like to know the proper depth to prevent overworking the motor. As far as the direction goes I am kinda sure I got it right but what the he11. Is the blade meant to face forward or rear. Its really a wiring question. THanks

Deep enough to keep from coming out of the water in a chop.<br /><br />On direction, just look at your outboard's prop. If on backwards, you won't have much thrust as you will be trying to push water against the back of the blade rather than the front and the back isn't designed to be doing the pushing....spin it slowly (mounted on the shaft,with power, not your hand) and look at it.<br /><br />Mark
